South African artist Christiaan Pretorius has always worked across boundaries: as a painter, muralist and theatre artist. His visual work is deeply rooted in the classical painterly traditions of the European canon, particularly the Dutch masters. A prolific and expressive painter, his work integrates classical technique with a contemporary sensibility. With a minimalist palette of light and shadow, he evokes the textures and rhythms of the natural world to create a strong sense of space and belonging.
